The 10 Acne Commandments.

Hello beautiful people :) well today I'm going to share with you a few points which if you follow religiously, your Acne will go away and stay away.

1.Keep your face clean at all times. But wash it twice a day with a mild medicated cleanser and warm water. IF you sweat a lot, then splash your face with cool water as often as you want and wipe with a clean towel/tissue.

2.Clean your make up brushes and other products twice weekly. And dry thoroughly . Use make up suited for your skin always. Guys clean your shaving brushes.  Look out for words like - Non-comedogenic , Non- pore blocking etc. Throw away before expiry. Do not share.

3.Stop touching your face. Punish yourself if you have to.You will see a definite change. Try and keep hair off face if you are having a bad attack of acne. Treat Dandruff if you you have it. It could be the cause of isolated acne on forehead. Don't let others touch your face either.

4.Use a separate towel for wiping your face. If you can, then buy a box of tissues and pull out a new tissue each time after washing your face.

5.Change your pillow cover everyday. Many people ignore this. Every night your face will touch your pillow many times. It could be a reason why you keep getting acne in certain parts of your face.

6.Clean your mobile phone with hand sanitizer weekly. Especially if you hold your phone touching your face when you talk. Use hands free whenever possible. Do not touch face when working on laptop/computer etc. These are one of the dirtiest places around you.

7.Do not attempt to pop a pimple. NEVER. Its the worst thing you can do for your skin. You are just making the way for future scars. Resist the temptation at all costs. If you absolutely cannot stand it, visit a dermatologist.

8.Get a complete health check up done if your acne is not coming under control at all and if it fills your entire face. Many girls might be having PCOD which can have acne as the only manifestation. Lose weight. It help to control acne to some extent. If you have acne just before your period, tell your doctor about it.

9.Do not get into the habit of taking so called 'blood purifiers' advertised in the market. The only habit you should develop is keeping your skin clean at all times and taking appropriate care as and when you get acne.

10.Treat Acne as early as possible. If someone tells you that it will go away with age, politely smile and go away. Same for a doctor also, any doc who says that you will grow out of your acne is misguiding  you. The earlier you control your acne, the lesser chance of you getting scars later. If your parents had acne then you need even more intense and earlier treatment. So see a Dermatologist asap and patiently follow what advice they give you. Your skin will benefit in the long run. For common beauty myths check this post I wrote here - Beauty Myths and Facts Solved.

So these are a few basic things to keep in mind for combating acne. Acne can happen at any age, from pre-adolescence to old age. Each age requires it own treatment. The earlier you treat it the better chances you have for it to gradually clear out. Apart from that maintain a healthy lifestyle, exercise for 30 minutes every day and drink lots of water and fresh food.  Try and keep stress free. Be happy. You can overcome acne if you follow the right steps. Keep a positive outlook always.

In the upcoming posts I will be reviewing the most effective and commonly used acne treatments. For all age groups and all budgets. Keep a look out for them. And if you have a specific product in mind about which you would like to know, leave me a comment below and I'll make a point to include it in my reviews. Till then, Stay Safe and Stay Beautiful. Always !

  16. The best tips ever. I have a question, do you think its better to use warm water or cold water for the face. I have heard that cold water is good as it gets the blood flowing.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thanks Shalu :) well dear cold water actually decreases blood flow, u must always wash your face with mild warm water as it helps to dissolve the oil and dirt from your face better and also opens up the pores. After you finish washing you can splash cold water to close the pores and fresh clean feel. Hope that helps.

  28. Thank you so much for sharing such a useful post.... Had been looking for tips to combat pimples and i am glad i came here...
You have mentioned that we can use a cleanser with warm water... Do you suggest any particular type or brand as there are so many available in the market... And any tips on how to clear black spots left by pimples...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You can use any cleanser which contains a little salicylic acid. You can try neutrogena, clean & clear etc. For marks left by acne scars you can try home remedies like a little lemon juice mixed with cucumber juice/honey on your spots once a week this will take some time or you can apply a depigmentation cream after consulting your doctor. But you must focus on preventing new acne marks from forming For that do not pick on your pimples ever and if you are constantly having acne, then get it treated once and for all. Hope this helps :)
      take care
